Somewhere between Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers my little
self
envisioned being an artist. It wasn’t a choice but more of
a cosmic assignment, creativity and wonderment chose me.

I dreamed of going to art school since before I fully
understood what that meant but life had detours. I studied a
year at Alberta University of the Arts in the early 1990's and it
was as magical as I had imagined. My husbands career took
priority and I became a mom twice. Not finishing my degree
was like walking with my shoes untied. In between domestic
obligations I worked in creative fields as a visual artist, arts
facilitator and graphic designer.

In 2022, at the age of 56, after many grief experiences I started
working on my BFA again with the goal of doing a Master’s in
Art Therapy. I’m currently in my 3rd year studying Print
Making, Photography, Art History, Indigenous studies and
Creative Writing.

I’ve had a love affair with the pure possibility of paper for
most of my life. When I was young, I’d fold sheets in half
and make a drawing on the front with crayons. My family
in the Maritimes were often the recipients of my creations.
When I became a painter I learned to digitize my work and
print cards that were always popular at sales and helped
supplement my career.

I’m no stranger to mental health and addiction, both
myself and those close to me. I’m tired of the long standing
stigma and silence so I developed a line of greeting cards to
open doors and create conversation. Gentle Health Ink. is
dedicated to changing the narrative about living with a
sensitive nervous system.
